Biography
Training and practice
Mr David Penn specialises in shoulder, hip and knee surgery.
He has specialist interest in arthritis surgery of the hip and knee as well as soft tissue pathology and arthritis of the shoulder.
Mr Penn graduated with distinction from the University of Melbourne in 1997 and completed his Orthopaedic training in Melbourne, Australia in 2004.
Thereafter he completed fellowship training in shoulder, hip and knee replacement surgery.
He trained in hip arthroplasty surgery in Exeter, United Kingdom and upper limb surgery at Wrightington, in the United Kingdom.
He spent a further 12 months in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada training in arthroscopic shoulder and knee surgery and joint arthroplasty.
He also completed a 6-month trauma fellowship at the Royal Melbourne Hospital trauma centre.

Teaching & Leadership
Mr Penn lectures and teaches courses in hip and knee surgery.
He has been an Examiner in Orthopaedic surgery for the Royal Australian College of surgeons.
He has been the Tasmanian State chair for the Australian Orthopaedic Association and the Royal Australian College of surgeons.
He is member of the Australian Arthroplasty Society and ISAKOS society. He is a fellow of the Australian Orthopaedic association and fellow of the Royal Australian College of surgeons.
He has been the chair of the Medical Advisory Committee for Calvary for Launceston for over 10 years and is currently head of the Orthopaedic Unit at the Launceston General Hospital.
